ITILŪ v3 Foundation Certification Study Notes

Below you will find notes, tips, and lessons learned in preparing for the ITIL foundation certification exam.

ITILŪ is a Registered Trade Mark of the Office of Governmental Commerce, and is registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

I have 30 years experience in the IT Delivery industry. Early in my career I performed operations management functions and led systems management processes in support of IT delivery. For the past 12 years I have led process standards to drive consistency and alignment to best practices. The ITIL framework and processes are familiar to me because they are based on best practices in the industry of which I have worked in for 30 years. Regardless of your experience, it is important to take the appropriate training, leverage other helpful material and most importantly have access to the ITIL Books to be successful in achieving certification.

It is important to understand the full 'system' behind the ITIL framework not just the individual processes. I found studying for the exam very rewarding as it solidified the knowledge I had gained over the years but also gave me an improved insight into how well the ITIL v3 framework represents how to run a services business.

These notes are not intended to replace or replicate the material provided in any published ITIL study guide. Quite the opposite. It is important you understand your own study style but I would not have been successful in obtaining the certification without the resources mentioned above.

The studying and preparation paid off in June of 2009 when I successfully passed the exam with a high score. Good luck to you should you chose to add this valuable certification to your credentials.
