Central Park History

Central Park was design way back in 1858 by Frederick Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. While its hard to imagine today, the land designated as Central Park today was a treeless swampland. There were less than 100,000 people living in New York City in the 19th century but Olmsted and Vaux envisioned the need for New Yorkers to have an urban oasis to escape the City and relax.
