Wedding Bells in Californ-I-A
Set out on the long cross-country journey to Northern California for a buddy's wedding after work today. I got the automated Orbitz call at 3pm saying my 6pm JFK to SFO flight was scheduled to leave on time so I grabbed a taxi at 3:45 and arrived at about 4:45. I usually check in online but had forgotten today, so I went to the American Airlines self-service kiosk to check in when I arrived at JFK. Upon checking in, the computer pulled up my flight and showed it scheduled for 6:00 with the current status Now 8:00pm. Obviously this was frustrating, particularly considering the length of flight. I looked at the American Airlines staff member standing nearby and said "Are you serious"? She asked "What"? and I said 8pm on the San Francisco flight and she quickly answered "Yep".So we ended up actually taking off from JFK at 9:50pm and I was in for a long night. I had to work Thursday (I work from home so I can really work anywhere) but I didn't get to Sacramento, my final destination until 3:45am PDT. I got up about 8am PDT, which was 11am "home time", and got to work. I had a couple of important meetings and while I was very tired and probably a little weird on Thursday, it was a good day and I got done what needed to be done.
I went to Men's Warehouse to pick up my tuxedo for my buddy's wedding where a customer there decided to pick a fight with me (not kidding). This part of the journey was highly entertaining at the time, but its really too stupid of a situation to explain and the idiocy of the moment wouldn't translate effectively in writing. Nonetheless, I didn't get into a fistfight and I did get my tuxedo, so all was fine.
I went over to my friend's house (the groom) to see his relatively new home and spend time with his family.
Friday, May 29th - Rehearsal
In spite of the navigation system in my speedy Infiniti G37 rental, I took a wrong turn heading to the wedding rehearsal. In part because I was running a few minutes late and in part for fun, I opened up the Infiniti a little bit (being cautious of course) on the back roads between Roseville and Newcastle. One of the things I like about the navigation system is that it can take you through back roads to see things you'd never see from the expressways and you can still be comfortable about getting to your destination without getting completely lost.
I went by the Perryn Elementary School tucked away in the hills, with its towering row of palm trees along the front property line. I arrived at the Newcastle Wedding Gardens about 10 minutes late, but fortunately I got there just as everyone else arrived.
The rehearsal went well, everyone figured out where we were supposed to go and what to do. The Newcastle Wedding Garden was a great site and everyone was ready for the day.
It was a fantastic weekend and exactly what a wedding should be: good people, good food and drink, and a beautiful location. See the Slideshow from the weekend.
Saturday, June 6th, 2009 - The Honeymoon is Over ;)
Okay, I don't mean it like that. But after the newleyweds spent the week together at the family's Cape Cod cottage, they invited East Coast family and friends to join them the following weekend.
I have to say how much I appreciate being invited to join the Flemming Family and Mike/Ashley in Cape Cod. It was a short but wonderful weekend where we got to know each other and love each others' strengths and weaknesses. In short, it was fantastic- like a private club you wish you could get into.
